DRO is widely regarded as the best airport in all the land, and for good reason: Friendly staff (even the TSA agents are pleasant), hardly ever any lines, you can arrive 30 minutes before a flight takes off and still make it in time for boarding (though come earlier to check bags), beautiful views.
The TSA staff here is so friendly. They literally helped me with my bags and made it so quick and easy going through. They charged with me too. They probably don't see tons of people coming through and thus don't run into a ton of jerks which I'm sure happens at many large airports.
They have a charging station for electronics and the restrooms are well kept.
Overall a nice experience here flying back to Denver. Thanks!
Although small, this airport had plenty of seats, clean bathrooms and even a little restaurant and a giftshop inside. The chairs are attached in three, giving people the option to lay down if needed. They have tables with chargers attached for people to use free of charge for every kind of phone, that's a huge plus. The mountain views from the lobby are beautiful. For me one of the most important qualities of this airport was customer service! That is rare to find in airports, and it's absolutely refreshing to see that. The employees greet you when you approach them, do rounds and greet people through out, and even the staff outside greet you. The size of the airport is small, but the customer service makes all the difference. I really liked this airport.
I don't think I have ever reviewed an airport before but I had to after such a positive experience. What this airport lacks in size it makes up for in friendliness and customer service. We had a small issue that we shared with an employee at the United counter without expecting anything to come from it. Despite the fact that the computer system was working they tried multiple methods of solving the problem until they found a way they could fix it. They exceeded our expectations and did so with a positive attitude and demeanor through the entire process. We left feeling appreciated and with it being the end of our long day of traveling it made the whole experience feel pleasant in our memory. Thank you so much!
As locals we love the airport. The small feeling makes everything incredibly personal and most everyone at the airport is very friendly. However, we recently tried to check in for a flight, engaged the desk attendant and were told to wait. As the young man seemed busy we happily agreed and thought nothing of it. After an extended period the airport employee came back and told us they weren't taking any more check ins and claimed we had only JUST showed up. We were forced to get time stamped security footage through the City of Durango to prove to the airlines that we had in fact shown up with plenty of time for a refund.
Being called liars by airport staff was simply salt in the wound after missing our family reunion. Very glad we were able to get security footage to prove otherwise. We'll continue to use DGO, but gosh darn that was disappointing to be treated less than human in a place we've all come to know and love.
So we de-iced and were told to wait 30 minutes before take off. Could not take off because of more snow on wings. Went back to de-ice had to wait, then had to wait again to take off, then had to de-ice again. By this time ran low on fuel had to go back to terminal. Wait a whole bunch more, got to get de-iced again but who knows when. This is 6 hours behind when I was supposed to land. The flight crew times out in 3 1/2 hours. There has been a lot of wasted de-icer and man hours, perhaps some communication between ground crew and tower. I know our pilot is ready and willing to get us off the ground, but the incompetence in getting things done in a timely manner is really mind boggling.
This airport is super easy to get through for security, ticketing etc. That being said, they are incapable of planning: Durango gets a lot of snow and ice in the winter. This airport has one de-icing machine. If you have multiple flights taking off close to one another, and each plane has to be de-iced (which takes about 20 mins), flights will be constantly delayed. Where most folks flying out of DRO are connecting, your chance of missing that connection is significant.
Get a new scheduler or something, DRO.
The airport is extremely understaffed for both the airlines and the security staff. My luggage was sent on a flight ahead of me and when I got to Durango I had no way to get my luggage and there was no one to talk to. If you are on a delayed flight that gets in in the evening, the airport is a ghost town as far as employees to assist with anything. Very disappointing.
